	Duplicating Work
Contractors have to build and maintain assemblies within different applications which is time consuming, error prone and siloed.


	Disconnected Departments Without Work Bench, contractors are hoping that their estimates reflect what is being modelled and pre-fabricated.
 


	Lack of Visualization If a picture is worth 1000 words, a 3D model is worth 10 000 words!&#38;nbsp; While estimating, estimators need to visualize what is included in an assembly to reduce inaccuracies leading to lost opportunity or eroding profits.



My design process
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;
	1. Learn current software solutionsSince, Work Bench is replacing a current Trimble product, the first thing I did was learn the product. I took classes and worked with internal experts to learn it’s workflows and features. I gained knowledge around what functionality would be expected in Work Bench by it’s users. I also wanted to be knowledgable when talking with customers.



	2. Talk to customer
The first conversation I had with customers was around them telling me about a day in their life at work. What our their daily goals, stessers, painpoints and where did this software come into play in their workflow?

 Secondly, I watched and ask questions about how they use the software today. Are there features they don’t use?&#38;nbsp;

 Next, I asked “if this could do anything, what would you want it to do?”. Is this the most ideal workflow for them and if not, what changes would help them do their job faster and smarter?
	
“We have assemblies for everything”“To me this application would be where we would build our real world assemblies, I think that would work really well”“Estimators build assemblies and so do 3D modelers and they don’t share them with each other (they are siloed from each other).&#38;nbsp; His big goal is to be as accurate as possible with his assemblies.”
“Seeing a 3D version helps an estimator know what's exactly in the assembly”



	3. Meet with stakeholders and define scopeWork Bench is serving 2 different personas (estimator and detailer) and will be used in 4 different Trimble applications.&#38;nbsp;

As the lead designer on this project I worked hand in hand with the lead product manager to define scope. We included the PM’s from the other products to help us understand their user’s needs.&#38;nbsp;

4. Design!Now that I had a good understanding of the user’s needs, workflow and painpoints as well as agreement from product on what is in scope, I started to design a prototype to be tested by users. I also brought in the dev team and started to get their feedback.&#38;nbsp;

	5. Prototype Testing FeedbackBased on user prototype testing, the designs changed as well as what features were in MVP or not. I worked with the PM to understand the user needs and balance those with the buisness needs and the timeline of the project.Duplication
We knew that we needed to support duplication of assemblies but we did not know where in the workflow they woud want to do this. Nor did we know what was expected from the duplication. 
Feedback
We learned that the user’s workflow was Users start with duplicating one assembly in a folder (copy, paste &#38;amp; rename)Then users duplicate a whole folder (copy, paste &#38;amp; rename)

SolutionBased on our new understanding of the user’s workflow it made more sense to have the user duplicate an assembly in the assembly list view and not in the assembly builder. For the user would not be thinking about “I need to duplicate this assembly” when they are editing it. 

 Allow user to duplicate an assembly in the assembly list view and edit the name from this viewAllow user to duplicate a whole folder containing assemblies and edit the folder name

	My Role
I was the lead designer on this project. I worked closely with the PM to understand the buisness needs, the scope and the personas impacted. I worked closely with the dev lead to understand any technical constraints.&#38;nbsp;
I lead the user research, presented by finding and delievered final designs.&#38;nbsp;


	Problem Statement
Currently users have to enter in a keyword search to find items. User are not sure what keywords to enter - they are either too specific or too vague.&#38;nbsp;
There was changes made to the data hierarchy that allowed the designs to use a drilldown design if desired.&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;
 


Research Findings&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;


	Positive Reviews on the designsAbility to drill downUsers said that the main thing they wanted was the ability to drill down into folders

Liked the designs of the drill downUsers liked that the drill downs showed the full folder path
 
Drill down was method&#38;nbsp; of choice
Users said they would drill down vs type: for it is faster for them.

	When would users searchThe designs still supported keyword search, we wanted to understand if that functionality is still needed and when in the process of finding something would the user type to search vs use the drill down?

To find a rarely used item
If there is an item that is not common for them to use then they would not have it in their favorites list nor have it memorized where the item lives in the tree.

Rarely used itemsHow can we help users to quickly find rarely used items?


	
Save Search &#38;amp; Filters
Users were asked if they would like to save their searches and filters. Response was “yes!”. They would want it to be user based and not estimate based.

Add items to favorites &#38;amp; Hierarchical Favorites
Users talked about their workflow of finding items in search and wanting to add the item to favorites right then and there.


	
Learn folder structure
Users said that in the search results they would like to see the full file path of the item so that they can learn where it lives and next time use the drill down to find the item

FilteringLoved the ability to filter
Users said they would want to filter the results further down but no need to filter on every column.
Would want to filter before they get resultsUsers said that they would know what filters they would want to apply before getting results. Such as a manufacturer or a size.
Do not want to type in to filter
The filter options should be a selection list and not an input box, for users said they would have issues with spelling: size would be a big issue here.

	Hidden Functionality



	Search and Filter in the columnsUsers said that they did not know about the ability to search or filter per column in the summary and audit trail pages.
	Sort columnsUsers said they would like to be able to sort on columns. They didn’t know you could click on the columns to sort.

No one mentioned the filter options that the library table has today.

With Mighty Nurse we want nurses to feel empowered and mighty. Mighty Nurse is an advocate for nurses. The overall look and feel is retro, patriotic and service oriented but still hip and playful. This is done by using consistence colors, graphics and layout. This also is done by verbiage the site gives out. Mighty Nurse tells it like it is – the truth in nursing. There also is a tone of compassion. Mighty Nurse’s user experience is very personalized so everything the brand does is personalized. Mighty Nurse is not afraid to lighten it up and has a great sense of humor.

	User Story 1:
When Amy first lands on Goldstar.com she is met with the create account screen. Amy does not read the text and just sees the email and password fields. Amy does not read the error text and believes that she had typed her password in incorrectly. After a few more attempts Amy now believes that she must have the email address wrong. She then puts in a different email and the password and it works! Amy does not realize that she just created a second goldstar account.
User Story 2:
Alicia gets an email from goldstar about upcoming events. She sees an event she is interested in. She clicks through to Goldstar.com where she is prompted to login. She does not think she has an account and clicks to create an account. Alicia does not realize the emails she gets is from having an account and thinks she has just subscribed to goldstar emails. When she tries to make an account she gets an error saying "There already is an account with this email." Alicia is now concerned that someone has made an account with her email and calls goldstar customer support.
Soluton:
Ask for only the email. Then take the user to their next step based on if there is an account or not. If there is an account then ask them to enter their password. IF there is not an account, then ask them to create an account by creating a password. Also use clear language on if the user is logging in or creating an account.

	Overview
Our goal for the home screen is to always provide fresh content for our users to keep them returning to the app. When they arrive, we want to entice them to keep scrolling via personalized and interesting groupings of events.

We’re grouping our homepage content into “buckets”: side-scrolling groups of events that change often depending upon the user’s preferences and the season/month/day of the week.

Our buckets fit broadly into three types: Personalized, Location-based, and Exploration. The content pyramids below illustrate how we expect the proportion of these types to change for various use cases.

Content Scrolling Pyramid
As the user scrolls through the home page the event buckets they will see go from personalized to general.For Carla members, the highly personalized buckets will take up most of what she scrolls through and only at the very bottom will see find more general event buckets.Because we know less about Alicia, it's more likely that her personalized buckets won't hit the threshold and will be hidden. So Alicia's homepage will result in more location-based recommendations.

	Where do users expect to find their purchased tickets?

Hypothesis:
We should have purchased tickets as a menu item outside of the account menu item. Using common icons for tickets and accouont will help user know where to find content.
User Research Results:
8 testers in version A went to Account first before redirecting to the Your Tickets icon. In the next test we decided to add Your Tickets to the Account menu as well. 5 out of the 25 testers went to the Account menu for their tickets in version B. We concluded that there did not need to be a seperate menu icon for purcahsed tickets for users expected it to be in their account and went there first.

Concerns:
We had a few extra concerns around 1.b so we extended the test to ask about finding where filters live, and about getting back to the initial home screen.
User Research Results:
Testers had lots of issues figuring out how to find filters. Once they were in they generally did fine, but finding Filters was problematic.

	The Challenge
Insight EMR is a customizable physical therapy EMR software. Designed for (and by) therapists to work with a single patient record, simple charting and a comprehensive content library. The goal is to start with the therapist user experience with a focus to modernise the aesthetic and increase therapists time with patients.


	What are we solving?
The focus was to speed up visit documentation time for the therapist and increase therpaist one-on-one time with the patient. The faster the therapist can document the more time they can spend with their patient which increases patient retention. Does our current product accomplish this? What do our users love and hate about our current product's visit documentation?


	My Role
I lead the design of the therapist features on InsightGO. I created UI solutions, user flows, prototypes, UI specs and lead the user research efforts. As a result of my and the rest of the team's efforts we launched InsightGO pilot in 11 months and rolled out to all of our customers in 16 months.

What information to show the therapist about the appointment
Hypothesis:
Therapist would like to know when things are due for this appointment or how many appointments until something is due. Such as FRL, Plan of Care, progress report and PQRS.

User Research Results:
As long as the visit document enforced them to enter and update when due, they don’t need that information in the appointment details. Also, therapists don't look at the appointment details, they live on the visit document area of the application so the details should live there.

Soluton:
Display the data that needs to be entered or updated in the visit document and have application enforce the rules during sign off. After more research, users are used to the old application that did alert them in the visit document but yet these alerts went unnoticed. So the solution needed to be more elegant.

	Predetermined Clinical Content Answers
Hypothesis:
Since this is how Insight EMR does it, our customers love it and that it speeds up their documentation.

User Research Results:
Therapist do not like it because most of the time to defaulted answer isn’t the one they want to use resulting in it slowing their workflow down. Also can result in wrong results entered when therapists don't go back to change the default answer. User would prefer to not use defaults.

Solution:
After more research, the default clinical content answers are settings entered by the admin and could be changed to be more accurate. But having such negative feedback from users on this feature we decided to not carry it forward. This lead to more research on copy forward clinical content that had some of the same bad user interactions. We changed that behavior by using a different text color for copied forward clinical content answers.


Bruce is still enjoying the Scheduling details, and really likes the Recent section in the Add Cliniction Content window. He estimates he has signed off on 30-40 visits in the web so far. He likes the Sign Off Process, especially because its “very simple" and only requires to “put in a second or two.” Bruce finds Insight Web to be a lot more responsive, whereas the Insight EMR “can bog down at times".</description>

	Step 1: Front Desk classifies patient’s reason for visit
Front desk answers 2 questions classifying the patient’s reason for visit.
This allows the system to automatically select which outcomes test the patient takes.&#38;nbsp;
Insight then sends Keet which outcomes to take &#38;amp; sends classification answers to ROMs. Which then display in the top of the visit document.

	Step 2: Patient gets added to workflow based on classification
Clinicient out of the box workflows for patients are already created for easy onboarding of new clincis. A clinic admin can create additional workflows for patients to suit their custom needs.&#38;nbsp;

	Step 3: Patient confirms accountA new patient account invite is automated created and emailed. The sysytme prepopulates basic patient demographic information for the clinic. Clinic can add additonal makring questions such as “how patient heear about this clinic?”.

	Step Four: Patient requests appointment
Patient is able to see their physical therapist’s availability, view their upcoming appointments, recieve appointment reminders. As well as be able to request to a change to their appointment. The front desk recieves a task list of patient that have request an appoitment change for easy notification.
